200 take part in inaugural event
The Warrnambool Athletics Club staged the inaugural Warrnambool Running Festival Sunday starting and finishing at Flagstaff Hill.
Over 200 runners took part with Tom Hynes taking out the men's half marathon and Rachel Ayers the women's half marathon.
Organiser Ash Ansell says it was a very successful first event with participants taking part in either a half marathon, 12k run or walk, or the 6k distance.
He says the feedback was great with runners and walkers loving the scenic course around Warrnambool.
This event has been created to replace the annual Koroit to Warrnambool half marathon after it had to be canceled on a number of occasions due to the course being under water.
Mr Ansell thanked all the volunteers that worked tirelessly in the lead up to the event and on the day.
He says they can see this event growing in coming years to become a major event on Warrnambool's sporting calendar.
