Very Different Christmas

'A Very Different Christmas' planned for Warrnambool, as popular event forges ahead!

COVID-19 can’t stop Christmas, that's the message from organisers of A Very Liebig Christmas who are moving ahead with a planned community celebration for Warrnambool, although the format will be a little different.

A Very Different Christmas will be the 2020 incarnation of the enormously popular event, which had seen thousands of people flock to the city centre in 2018 and 2019 for a free street party.

Rather than just one night, A Very Different Christmas will run over three days, November 27 to 29, with COVID-safe activities and entertainment spaced throughout.

Event organiser Adele Griffin said that as well as being an important time of year socially, the Christmas period was vital to the local business sector.

“Almost every business in Warrnambool has felt the effect of COVID-19 this year, so I’d encourage everyone to shop local and do everything they can to help our local businesses get through this unparalleled period of hardship,” she said.

“The first A Very Liebig Christmas event in 2018 was the third biggest trading day of the entire year, so we know just how helpful it’s been for local traders in the past.

“While the format has had to change in order to keep everyone safe, we’re sure that the spirit of Christmas and the spirit of Warrnambool will still shine through.

“It is more important than ever that we continue to find ways to connect and celebrate.”

Children’s performers the Mik Maks will kick off the event with a virtual concert with in-store demonstrations, competitions, Christmas window displays, carolling and more activities to also feature.

It wouldn’t be a Christmas party without Santa, with the jolly old elf set to make an extra special appearance this year.

The full program will be published at closer to the event.

A Very Different Christmas is supported by Bendigo Bank and the Warrnambool City Council’s Get Around Warrnambool initiative.
