Griffiths Street to Close for Drainage Works and a New Car Park in Port Fairy

Works to provide additional carparking near Port Fairy’s popular East Beach and improve drainage on Griffiths Street are set to begin in the coming weeks.

Moyne Shire Council Mayor, Cr Daniel Meade said the essential road closures have been scheduled to take place after the May Race Day public holiday and following the popular tourist season.

“These works on Griffiths Street and Hughes Avenue, Port Fairy are vital to maintaining and improving infrastructure for the safety of our community,” said Cr Meade.

“Council is grateful for the funding provided by the Australian Government as part of its Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program and has allocated $480,000 to this project.”

Residents have been advised that Griffiths Street will be closed from Monday, May 10 to Friday, 21 May, followed by the closure of Hughes Avenue until Wednesday, 2 June 2021.

“While we understand that temporarily closing Griffiths Street and Hughes Avenue may cause some inconvenience, we appreciate the community’s patience whilst we undertake these important works,” Cr Meade said.

“This closure means there will be no vehicle access for people travelling from the Golf Course road into the centre of Port Fairy during the two-week road closure.”

“Council has positioned signage on Griffiths Street and residents and businesses in the area have been sent a letter, notifying them of the upcoming works.”
