South West Healthcare To Appoint First-Ever Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse

South West Healthcare will be able to appoint their first ever prostate cancer specialist nurse, thanks to a $370,000 grant.

It comes as the Australian Government expands the Prostate Cancer Nurses Program, delivered by the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.

"We’re thrilled that we’ve been able to successfully advocate for the needs of our local communities by securing a $370,000 grant to appoint our first-ever prostate cancer specialist nurse" said South West Healthcare's Nurse Consultant Coordinator Andrea Janes.

"This funding has come via the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia’s expanded Prostate Cancer Specialist Nursing Service"

"South West Healthcare’s funding allows for a 0.6 FTE position for three years, to June 2023, our recruitment process will commence next month".

Member for Wannon Dan Tehan, says the funding will help the many Australian men and their families.

“I welcome the announcement by the Minister for Health, Greg Hunt, that the Government will invest $23 million over the next three years, so prostate cancer nurses can be placed at health services and cancer services in Wannon" Mr Dan Tehan said.

“So many Australian men and their families have had their lives turned upside down by prostate cancer, so I’m very pleased they will have the support of these specialised nurses now and into the future".
