Shire Welcomes Funding

“This announcement is the final piece of the puzzle"

In a historic moment for the Glenelg Shire, the final piece of the Portland Foreshore redevelopment puzzle has been realised following a multi-million dollar Victorian Government funding windfall.

Minister for Regional Development Mary-Anne Thomas last week announced $5 million had been allocated to complete the revitalisation of Portland’s Foreshore precinct as part of the Portland Foreshore Master Plan.

The funding brings the total state contribution to $8.5 million.

Glenelg Shire Mayor Cr Anita Rank said it was a significant milestone for the Glenelg community.

“This announcement is the final piece of the puzzle and will ensure our ‘jewel in the crown’ foreshore precinct can now reach its full tourism and recreation potential" she said.

“This funding will see the existing community infrastructure along the Foreshore combined into one state of the art building"

“Not only will this offer a world-class experience for locals and visitors alike, it will provide significant long term economic and social contributions and ensure Portland and the Glenelg Shire remain a destination of choice"

Further information regarding project timelines and building designs will be released in the coming months.
