New roundabout set for intersection of James and Bank streets in Port Fairy

The Moyne Shire Council will soon start work on a new roundabout at the intersection of James and Bank streets in Port Fairy.

Moyne Shire Mayor, Cr Daniel Meade said the intersection had been identified as a safety concern following a review of local streets with high traffic volumes.

“This new roundabout results from a review of local streets that may pose safety concerns for all road users including motorists, cyclists and pedestrians,” Councillor Meade said.

“Council also conducted a survey in 2019 which indicated safety improvements at that intersection are a priority for residents and businesses.

“The roundabout is being fully funded by a $515,000 grant from the State Government’s Regional Victoria Safe Travel in Local Streets (STILS) program.

“We have timed the works to try to minimise disruption, with the intersection closing at the end of the July school holidays, and reopening in time for the September holidays.

“While we appreciate this closure may cause some temporary inconvenience, we appreciate the community’s patience while we undertake these important works to improve safety at the intersection.”

The James Street and Bank Street intersection will be closed from Monday 13 July to Friday 18 September, 2020.

While there will be some parking restrictions during this time, pedestrian access will remain along the existing footpaths.
