First doses of Pfizer for 40-49 year olds administered, but patience key for bookings

The first community doses of the Pfizer Vaccine have been administered to 40-49 year olds at Warrnambool's Covid-19 Vaccination Centre this morning.

By days end around 500 people who had booked online, will have received their first dose.

South West Healthcare's Covid 19 Coordinator Sue Anderton, said it was pleasing to see that side of the vaccination program underway, but stressed patience is key when it comes to bookings.

"We understand the frustrations around booking and the phone lines going down, we are just doing our best to try and navigate around all of that" she said.

"The best way here in our region (to book), is to keep an eye out on our SWH Website and Facebook Page, we will offer links to the community as soon as they are available"

"If they click on the link and it doesn't work, or there is no times available, it means we are booked out, or do not have supply"

Ms Anderton said that as they receive updates on supply, they will communicate to the community via those platforms.

As for next week, it appears that walk-in appointments for the AstraZeneca Vaccine won't be offered to those over 50, unless supply increases across the state.

"Supply across the state is difficult at the moment, it's a week to week issue for us, so we're currently waiting on our confirmation of supply for next week"

"At this stage we are supporting the disability and aged care sector next week, and we are hoping to get out second dose clinic done for Pfizer".

Acting Premier James Merlino confirmed in his daily press conference this morning, that a request had been made to the Federal Government for an increased vaccine supply.

Ms Anderton praised the work of their staff, who have been 'amazing' throughout the entire vaccination rollout.

By days end it's anticipated that South West Healthcare's Vaccination Program, will have surpassed 12,500 doses administered, since the program began.
