Locals are encouraged to join in one the fun

The Koroit Irish Festival is encouraging the local community to get involved in a creative fundraiser which has been running for the last week.

The Festival Committee last week launched a treasure hunt which sees boxes filled with pairs of shoes for sale with all proceeds heading to the Koroit Lions Club.

The boxes are hard to miss, coloured with the green, white and orange of the Irish flag

Festival president Adele MacDonald says the response has been great so far

"We've been very excited to see lots of people donate their shoes."

"A lot of people are also purchasing really good, high quality shoes as well and we're seeing people out and about in town in their new shoes."

The boxes are located across Koroit with most of them placed along Commercial Road and will be undercover and off the footpaths.

If they like what they see, the shoes or boots can be theirs, with a $5 price tag on all items.

Each box location will have an information sheet, with instructions on how to pay directly into a Koroit Lions Club account.

For those who can’t pay with their phones, an honesty system will be in place, with those people asked to take the shoes they want and to pay for them at the Koroit Lions Club Op Shop when it re-opens when the COVID-19 restrictions allow.

More details can be found at the Koroit Irish Festival on Facebook.
