An Australian family-owned retail chain, which has been operating for almost 50 years, has gone into voluntary administration.

He says the focus now is on their 450 employees.

"Many of our staff have been with us for decades, they're friends and really part of the Ishka family, they at the moment are our sole focus" Mr Darvall said.

"We need to try and do whatever we possibly can to preserve as many of those 450 jobs as possible".

Ishka becomes the latest national retailer to announce voluntary administration, following the likes of Harris Scarfe, EB Games and Jeanswest.
