Clubhouse redevelopment to benefit from Building Better Regions Funding

The proposed clubhouse redevelopment at the Warrnambool Golf Club (WGC) has been given a significant boost today with Member for Wannon, Dan Tehan announcing $2 million funding towards the project.

Member for Wannon Dan Tehan and Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce announced the funding today as part of the Federal Building Better Regions Fund Infrastructure Projects Stream (Round 5).

WGC President, Paul Blain, confirmed that the project is a key priority within the club’s Strategic Plan and today’s announcement is a welcome contribution that will assist the project moving forward quicker than anticipated.

“We are thrilled to have secured this funding which was a very welcome surprise and a fantastic result for the club and its members,” said Mr Blain.

“The club has been diligently planning this redevelopment over the past few years and after sharing the concept plans with our members earlier this year, we are really excited to be in a position where we can now progress the project to its next stage”.

He added that this project will result in positive flow-on effects for the Warrnambool region as a whole, including “significant economic gains to businesses, accommodation, hospitality and tourism industries”.

Club Manager, Ashlee Scott, described the new clubhouse as an integrated, purpose-built community space that can be used by members, visitors and the community all year round.

"A clubhouse facility is the fabric of any community organisation and is fundamental in supporting and maximising the outcomes of sport"

"We believe that this project not only offers great benefit for our members and its visitors but it will increase the profile of our beautiful region and establishes a sustainable and bright future for our club”, said Ms Scott.

"Our community deserves amazing facilities and the new clubhouse will be a fantastic asset in attracting and retaining members, hosting events and celebrations and increasing golf tourism”.

Featuring an open plan layout, the new facility will include a retail space for a golf shop, lounge area, memorabilia display, multi-purpose room, community meeting room, change rooms and lockers, accessible toilets, parent facilities and provisions for a future virtual golf tuition area and cart storage facilities.

Whilst the draft project plan is due to be finalised, it is anticipated that the project will commence by mid-2022.
