South West Healthcare's Covid-19 Vaccination Centre is taking shape, as they prepare to open for the first priority group of community vaccinations.

The fit out of the former Sams Warehouse site is now complete, which includes 12 vaccination bays, numerous waiting areas and a spacious observation zone.

SWH COVID 19 Coordinator Sue Anderton, says they are hopeful of commencing community vaccinations for the next priority group in the coming weeks.

"The facility roll out went really well, our infrastructure is all in place now, essentially what we are waiting for is a continuous supply of vaccine to get the centre open to the community" she said.

"At this point we don't have an exact date, but we envisage it's weeks, not months"

The health service has committed to keeping the public informed over the coming weeks, as to when and how locals will be able to book.

Once the facility is operational, it's expected to accommodate for up to 500 vaccinations per day, with 10 doses able to be given every 10 minutes.
