Truck and car involved

Police have asked that people travelling between Dunkeld and Hamilton along the Glenelg Highway take alternative routes, following a fatal collision between a truck a car.

The collision is believed to have occurred about 10.45am, at the intersection of the Glenelg Hwy, Penshurst-Dunkeld Rd and Dunkeld-Cavendish Rd.

Reports have come through that an 85-year-old man from Melbourne has died at the scene, while two elderly women, also from Melbourne, have been critically injured.

Both women were airlifted to Melbourne, while the middle-aged truck driver was not injured in the tragic crash.

Emergency services which include police, ambulance and the Country Fire Authority are at the scene of the accident.

The Highway is expected to be closed for most of the day and travellers should take the alternative route on Chatsworth Rd when driving in the area.
