Risk of developing depression linked to poor diet and exercise

The risk of developing depression is directly linked to diet, lifestyle and exercise, Swinburne University of Technology researchers have found.

Swinburne University Lecturer and Deakin honorary research fellow, Dr Joanna Dipnall, told Ross and John the risk of depression is most closely linked to our diet, followed by physiological factors and then lifestyle patterns such as sleep and exercise.

“The facts are if we are not eating a healthy diet you are increasing your risks of depression,” Dr Dipnall said.

“Processed foods, processed meats, junk food, it’s not a good thing.”
