“This funding will help members of the community to continue their voluntary work to protect and preserve the state’s precious coastal environment,” Mr Galvin said.

“For 24 years, Coastcare Victoria has focused on preserving the coastline, promoting conservation and engaging volunteer participation.

“These groups support the conservation, restoration and rehabilitation of coastal and marine environments along Victoria's 2,000km of coastline.

“The 2019 Coastcare Victoria Community Grants Program has funded 11 community groups in the Barwon South West region.

Local grant recipients include:

• Beach Patrol 3280 – ‘Stop the POP (Plastic Ocean Pollution)’: $14,793
• Killarney Coastcare Group – ’Belfast Coastal Reserve Spring Planting 2019’: $5,190

“Our region is lucky to have so many dedicated volunteers who are passionate about looking after our coast and their local communities.
“We’re supporting their hard work through the Coastcare Community Grants Program, ensuring our coast is protected and preserved for future generations.”
