Wannon's Labor Candidate Challenged To Match Road Funding

Wannon's Labor candidate, Maurice Billi has had the gauntlet thrown down to him and has been asked to match the $60 million in funding for upgrades to the Princes Highway, announced recently by Member for Wannon, Dan Tehan.

Mr Tehan's announcement last week would fund further safety upgrades, passing lanes and duplication on the busy stretch of highway between Warrnambool and Port Fairy.

Moyne Shire Council Mayor, Cr Mick Wolfe has welcomed Mr Tehan’s funding commitment and is now challenging Labor’s Wannon candidate, Maurice Billi to match it.

“Back in March, Mr Billi was quoted in the media as saying the state of our roads would be a hot federal election issue and said he’d heard the message loud and clear about the state of our roads and what needed to be done,”

“He said that one of the major issues people were talking to him about was the poor state of our local roads and I couldn’t agree more."

Similar to Cr Wolfe, Warrnambool City Council Mayor Cr Tony Herbert has called on the State Government to match the road funding.

"The State Government can jump on board and the dialogue needs to be opened,"

"The politics needs to be put aside and this project needs to be delivered for the people of the south west."
