Western Vic MP "Jumped the gun"

Member for South West Coast Roma Britnell has criticised the state government following the release of the Business Case into the upgrade of Warrnambool's Reid Oval.

Mrs Britnell says it was the Liberal/National Government that facilitated upgrades to the netball pavilion and electronic scoreboard 6 years ago, and that the Andrews Government has dropped the ball.

Mrs Britnell has also accused Member for Western Victoria James Purcell of jumping the gun in announcing he can provide $7 million dollars in funding for the Reid, which is significantly less than the $10.5 million being sought by the Warrnambool City Council.

Council released its business case for the long-awaited Reid Oval upgrade to user groups on Tuesday night, where it was announced the project could cost up to $12.5 million compared to the $6.91m estimated in February last year.

The city is seeking $10.5 million from the state government, with a further $2 million to be provided by council and other business partners.

Manager for recreation and culture at the WCC, Russell Lineham says if state government funding was obtained, construction would start in 2021 and be completed by 2023.

The redevelopment would mean no cricket or football at the venue for two seasons each.
